Summary
After 5 years of growth and success, Houseplantsitter came to us with a desire to refresh their website. Having maintained a connection with the HPS team, we were acutely aware of their needs and desires, so we eagerly jump on the project.
The new look
Over the 5 years, HPS had made a strong impact in their sector with a stable, growing catalog of commercial and residential customers. As such, we knew that the new site needed to be more professional and polished. We reigned in some of the excess coloring in the site, formalized a clear page layout with structured sections, and enhance the appearance of the site across devices. A big addition was the implementation of video banners atop each page of the site for an instant “wow” factor. We also include business reviews more heavily, as HPS had a stellar reputation worth boasting about. We also elaborated more on the different service offerings and FAQs to account for the questions and confusion the team had dealt with over the years with onboarding new customers.
System and Security Updates
Things on the internet change fast and the HPS site had a few years of updates to catch up on. In order to prevent any disruption in service, we started by copying the site as is. With the new copy, we began testing updates. Since this was a WordPress site, we started with updating the WordPress version. We immediately ran into issues as other plugins and custom features didn’t align. After updating, patching, and removing various features we were able to get everything up and running.
The Final Step
Updating a live site can be very tricky. In an ideal scenario, customers don’t even notice any downtime. We performed the updates to the HPS late in the evening to facilitate this smooth transition. After creating a release plan and a rollback plan, we began the migration. There were one or two minor hiccups, but after an hour or so HPS had a fancy new website to brag about.
